NECR IORY 3317 : Currently lettered for the Indiana & Ohio but never delivered there, the New England Central Railroad SD40-2 (SD40T-2) 3317 was delivered by CSXT this weekend to the NECR at Palmer, MA. The unit is set to be shipped to St. Albans for NECR logos, then released for service on the NECR road freights. Photos are from March 24, 2013.

VTR Turbine Blades October : The 12 blades destined to the Georgia Mountain Community Wind farm were unloaded at the Vermont Rail System's yard in Burlington, Vermont on Saturday, October 20, with veteran VTR GP18 801 being used to switch the cars.

VT ARRA HSR : From November 2010 through October 2012, a total of 191 miles of mainline was completely rebuilt on the New England Central Railroad as part of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail grants from the Federal Railroad Administration. During the rebuilding process, I was taken on jointly by RailAmerica, Steel Dynamics Inc. and LB Foster to photo-document the work from St. Albans, Vermont to East Northfield, Massachusetts (technically Vernon, VT). The project has provided the single largest order to date for domestic rail for the SDI mill in Columbia City, Indiana, as well as being the first ARRA project to be started and completed in entirety 'on time, on budget'... I have compiled the imagery into a presentation format that will I am taking bookings to present (kevin@steelwheelsphotography.com) and am available for dates in December of this year through all of next year. If you are looking for a comprehensive program on how a railroad is re-constructed, this program will cover that in its entirety. I am also available to cover other like projects for your company at reasonable rates. 2012 Green Mtn Gateway OCS : On October 10, the Vermont Rail System, New England Central Railroad and Providence & Worcester Railroad teamed up to run a Green Mountain Gateway Inspection Trip from Whitehall, New York to Worcester, Massachusetts. The train was led by P&W B40-8W 4006 and hauled Green Mountain Railroad Co. Obs Car 1323 and Biz Car #4 - MacIntyre.

Americas Cup Express : New England Central Railroad's move of the America's Cup Express train is seen at various locations on the NECR system. The train was made up of containers and support equipment for the America's Cup Race - enroute from Davisville, RI to San Francisco, CA.

Hurricane/TS Irene Railroad Aftermath : Following the August 28 12-inches-plus of rainfall in as little as 3-4 hours, the entire state of Vermont saw destruction and devastation that has not been seen since the "Great Flood of 1927" and then some folks say this is worse. I've had the opportunity to access rail areas that have no public assess to survey heavily damaged locations in the flooding and recorded the following images.
